An international quality seal with many advantages – ISO 9001
The ISO 9001 standard is the world’s best-known quality standard, well established both in Sweden and in other countries. Basically, ISO 9001 is about securing the quality of products and/or services that the company offers with improvements, and the standard’s requirements document is therefore a good tool for all companies that want to develop and work smarter. A business that meets the requirements of ISO 9001 is productive and cost-effective, receives lower number of complaints and has more satisfied customers. An ISO certification also fulfills an important function internally, since the staff often feel greater responsibility and satisfaction in their work when they actively participated in quality-enhancing measures. A certified quality management system is also an increasingly common requirement both for large procurements and for smaller business deals.
A quality certification according to ISO 9001 is a wise investment that helps you do what you are good at even better – at the same time you strengthen your brand towards both customers and suppliers
ISO 9001 – What is needed and what is the process for a certification?
Implementing a quality management system according to ISO 9001 and certifying it can feel like a big project, but big doesn’t have to mean difficult or complicated. You simply introduce routines for how you should ensure continuous development and improvement in your business.
Broadly speaking, the process – creating a functioning quality management system and becoming certified – involves the following steps:
- Establish quality policy, define your processes and routines, including responsibilities/roles and competence requirements.
- Implement the management system in your business
- Analyze and evaluate how effective your working methods are through measurements and internal audits – further improve your quality management system
- External audit
- Certification
You do steps 1-3 yourself or with the support of a consultant. There are many talented consultants working in different industries around the country, we are happy to convey contact information. You can also get good help from the SIS (Swedish Standards Institue) website. There are, among other things, requirements documents, checklist, a web guide and tips on education and manuals. Training/knowledge in ISO 9001 is recommended.
With an ISO 9001 audit, we as an accredited certification body help you review your quality management system based on the requirements set out in ISO 9001. We look at whether your routines are comprehensive and if the working methods you describe are well established and implemented. Should we find any shortcomings after the quality audit, you will get a list of what needs to be addressed.
When the audit is approved and completed, we issue your certificate in accordance with ISO 9001. We then assist you with annual development visits for continued good development and a maintained high quality. Every three years, a re-certification is also made. Together we look at any deviations and shortcomings so that a new certificate can be issued well in advance of expiry date of the previous one.
